Fusion symposium at Columbia University (2022)

I was honored to receive an invitation to the inaugural symposium held by Kevin Fellezs, the incoming director of Columbia University’s Center for Jazz Studies. The entire symposium is archived here. Below is my presentation “‘Your Tongue Enthralls’: Transcendence & the Untranslatable in Global Jazz Fusion,” which is taken from my current monograph project. My thanks to Kevin and those who agreed to be interviewed for this talk: Andre Carvalho, Uri Gurvich, and Rudresh Mahanthappa. I’m especially grateful to Uri for his attendance at the presentation.

The Center reformatted my slideshow so the formatting looks not quite right here. Apologies for that. Please reach out with questions.
